I’ve been with Brixmor for over 20 years; time that has afforded me the opportunity to observe our organization and culture evolve.

Today, Brixmor has a welcoming culture that makes people feel valued as a person, not just as a professional. I’ve seen how this positive environment, where people see real opportunity, makes a huge difference in how they feel about coming to work.

Furthermore, I’ve seen the value of that culture in my own role in Leasing, where we regularly encounter a broad cross section of people: local officials, community leaders, first-time business owners, large retailers, young entrepreneurs. When the phone rings, you don’t know who is going to be on the other side. One of the best things you can do is listen. You’ve got to first learn something from them, and then figure out how you can help.

People want to be understood and feel heard, whether they are a tenant, a broker or a Brixmor colleague. Good intentions matter, but setting up a framework to act on those intentions, like the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Leadership Council, is more meaningful.  We formally work together to make sustainable progress in creating a more inclusive and diverse Brixmor community.  This, in turn, signals both internally and externally that we value inclusion and diversity and embrace the opportunity for growth in these areas.
