Darryl Heslop

I joined Brixmor Property Group in May 2015 as Senior Counsel within the Legal Department. I was hired by Steven Siegel, EVP, General Counsel and Secretary at Brixmor, a highly regarded legal professional, and I welcomed the opportunity to join his team.
 
Since day one at Brixmor, the company fostered my talents and recognized and rewarded my work as evidenced by three promotions during my tenure to my current position of Senior Vice President, Associate General Counsel. 
 
My nomination to the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Leadership Council is an absolute honor and further reinforced my affinity for Brixmor. As an organization, we are running towards inclusion and embracing all of its boundless possibilities.  As a Council, we are encouraged and empowered to assess and identify avenues for positive change and charged to attack them with actions and not words.
 
Brixmor could serve as a case study to highlight the importance of sound management. Powerful leadership matters. The Council is not a token effort: our CEO moderated our first meeting and set the tone for our purpose and his expectations of us.
 
Diversity is not just a concept for me, but a reality. I am African American of Jamaican descent.  My wife is Caucasian of Puerto Rican descent. My children are biracial and multicultural. I appreciate this platform to share my life and my lens and to have these important conversations.
 
From a personal standpoint, my role on the Council provides a professional pathway for me to participate in the current social justice movement. As a husband and father, I have not felt comfortable being on the front lines, but I did not want to be on the sidelines either. This is an important moment, and I am thankful to be able to contribute in a very real way.
